Not Sure That I Agree…

So Guitar World published their list of the “50 Greatest Guitar Albums”:

50 Greatest Guitar Albums at Guitar World

The problem with lists like this is that they’re always subjective.  And the fact that they have to cover so many genres at once means that so many things get left off.  But seriously – including albums from a few years ago and leaving out Jeff Beck?  And while we’re at it – where was Eric Johnson?  How about the Allman Brothers Band?  ZZ Top?  Rory Gallagher?  Ted Nugent?

And those are just the classic guitar heavies.  Where were the blues guys?  Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson… do they not count?  Or jam bands like Gov’t Mule and the North Mississippi Allstars?  Those albums are non-stop guitar assaults.

I dunno man.  Like the old men say: if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing it right.  It seems to me that leaving off some of the most inspirational guitarists ever is not doing it right.

But that’s just my take.

  1. Um, Hiya! This has nothing to do with pretty sunburst fender strats, but I thought you’d be interested in this article seeing as I introduced you to Fountains of Wayne and you kinda liked them once upon a time…

Yes, yes. I hang my head in shame.”
