If I Could Only Fly

During a loooooong boring meeting on Wednesday I was telling a friend about Blaze Foley.  I’ve written about him a little before, if you want to check it out.  He was a character, true Austin weird before that became the catchphrase that drew all these new residents that make getting around town so damn hard.  His life was cut short, shot dead at the age of 39 while trying to stop a robbery attempt.  He left behind some great songs.

Today I opened up the Austin American Statesman to find that someone else took a late interest in Foley’s life and work.  A film about Blaze’s life is debuting on Sunday at one of the Alamo Drafthouse Theaters (can’t remember which one, too lazy to look it up), directed by a guy who spent many years working on it.  So if any of you are reading this from the heart of Texas, you should check it out.  I just might.
